“Yeah she’s pretty, for a dark skin girl.” Statements like this personify how we’ve deemed beauty to be light and fair.
It’s been centuries and centuries of indoctrination that has conformed our ideals of beauty, hence why it has taken so long to see a dark skinned beauty like her grace the stages of international beauty pageants. Not that is the forum that best guages what we as a society deem as beautiful, but its a change nonetheless.
