If you’re a guy reading this, take this as your warning. I’m about to talk about menstrual cycles. Are you still here? You haven’t run away yet? Good!
Now for my ladies, I came across Thinx, absorbent pants specifically designed for women on their periods to bring peace of mind and a leak-free zone. Although I am skeptical, anything that attempts at improving that wretched week I’m here for.
The team behind Thinx are three women, twin sisters Radha and Miki Agrawal and friend Antonia Dunbar. They note on their site that “by reimagining feminine hygiene products to provide support, comfort, confidence, and peace of mind, we aim to eliminate shame, empowering women and girls around the world.”
The underwear comes in three different styles that range from thongs for light flow, briefs for mid size flow and hip hugging briefs for heavier flows. Thinx claims it can prevent any leaks allowing you to go out without a tampon or sanitary napkin. It’s made from safe self-absorbing material that is comfortable to wear. The underwear can be thrown into the wash after use.
The Thinx women don’t want to just sell panties, they also want to contribute to world by reducing the number of sanitary pads and tampons that get thrown into landfills every year. They’ve also teamed up with AfriPads a non-governmental organization based in Uganda, that makes and distributes washable, reusable pads to women in need. For every pair of panties sold, THINX donates the cost equivalent of seven pads to the organization, who distributes them in the country so that women and girls can continue going to school and work. This came together after they learned that in many developing countries, young girls miss time from school due to their periods if they don’t have access to sanitary napkins.
